Question stone over painted concrete blocks??

i have an exposed concrete block foundation and hope to cover it with stone in the future. meanwhile my wife wants it painted to match the wood stain of the house. is it possible to have stone (probably natural limestone as this is the natural stone of the area) applied over painted blocks? i am looking at using behr's masonry paint. thanks

Any coating will reduce the bond of future cement based applications.

In the future, you may have to attach wall ties or stucco mesh to the wall to apply the stone.

Consider that you may also have to support the stone if it is not a thin veneer.
