Post Stucco over painted cement/brick exterior

Hats off to all those that offer help on this web service!!

I have your typical 1950ís Florida block home that needs a face lift. I am a fairly competent DYIer and will be removing two jalousie windows to replace them (fill in the openings) with cement block. I would then like to stucco over the new block as well as resurface the remaining front and side of the house to update it.

The current surface is a painted, almost smooth, concrete like material with very bumpy painted bricks along the bottom of the house. Before opening the can of worms, is this feasible? If so, what needs to be done to prep the painted surfaces for proper stucco adherence?

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

To do a proper stucco job, you will have to attach wire lath to the house before coating.

A standatd 3 coat stucco system is a scratch coat, a brown coat and a finish coat of your desired appearance. A modified system combines the scratch and brown coat during a short period of time.
