Crazy Foundation Idea..

I am trying to fix my basement foundation and was thinking about mixing some cement and just filling in the gaps and holes.. The house is on a foundation of rocks and "cement"... under the windsows some of the "cemet" has worn away from water leakage.. I am going to fix the leaky windows but abound the bacement the foundation has simply chiped and worn groves and holes.. I want to patch these up with some nice cement so that it does not look like everything is falling appart.. Fear not.. I had the basement inspected and they said it was in good shape but I just want to make it a little more consmetically pleaseing as I want to put my washer and dryer down there withought feeling as though I have steped into a mideaval torure chamber. Will the two materials bond? Will it help with the structural integrity of the house? what kind of filling cemenet should I use? Am I crazy?

You will need a mixture of sand and cement to form a thick plaster. In order to get a good bond, paint on a latex bonding material (Acryl 60 or similar) on the existing walls after they have been thouroughly brushed and washed.

Without seeing the situation and thicknesses involved, you may need to trowel it on in two coats to get the best job. After you have it coated and dried a few days, apply a cement based waterproofing material like Thoroseal (available in white and gray). You will have to wet the wall before using the Thoroseal and could use the Acryl 60 again to get a better bond.

Good luck

thanks

Thanks for the swift reply. I think I will do just that.. do you know a rough cost e for such a thing? the basement is about 1300 sf. Can I use the same thing for the floor as well? What is the purpose of the windows in the basement or can I simplyu just fill them in?
