My options in painting large patio? (pics)
Hi
I have about a 700 sq/ft concrete patio. It was originally green and then painted/stained a beige like color. I honestly don't remember what I used when I painted it years ago. I would like to stain it again and do it properly. The impression I get is that a water based stain (like H&C® Shield PlusTM Ultra Concrete Stain ) is my option. Please take a look at the image I provided and the links below to some more imgas. I was kind of hoping to do a acid stain and achieve a result that I see here -> http://www.gorgeousconcrete.com/photo_Gall/Stain_Photos_J/OHAFSt5J.jpg

The has been some crack repair using some off the shelf cement crack filler. I hope a new stain will cover that up. As you can see, I'm lost what do you think?

You're talking about two different things. Water based pigmented stain like the H&C is like thinned down paint. It will give you a flat, uniform color, and will need reapplication in a few years. Upside is that it will hide your patches somewhat.
Acid stain has no pigment, but gets all it's color through chemical reaction with the cement in the concrete. It gives the translucent, mottled look you showed in the first picture. In order for it to work, it has to be able to penetrate the concrete. This means that ALL foreign matter such as the old paint, sealer, etc. must be removed first. Acid stain hides nothing. It only enhances what's there. Therefore, all your patches will show, as well as anything you don't get off the slab.
