Broke a block. Need to fix it

My friend and I broke up a patio slab next to my house because it was sloped towards my house causing the rain to damage the wall. We broke it up with a backhoe but when attempting to move a big piece away from the house, a corner of the slab pressed into a block in the block foundation and cracked it.

What is the best way to repair this? Can I just crack out the concrete on the face where its cracked and fill it with something or do I need to remover the entire block and mortar in a new block? and pointers or tips for an amatuer???

Broke a block. Need to fix it

Just break out the face shell of the broken block.

Get another block, split off the face shell (1 1/4" to 1 1/2" thick) and mortar it into place on the broken block.

This is a common construction detail or repair.

Excellent! that was my first thought. and it seems the easiest as well!! (I was praying no one would say "well you have to chip out the entire block and then .....)

Thanks for the reply!
