Pool tile regrout

Need help with pool, please! We are regrouting our pool ourselves, but are getting conflicting information from several sources. Does all grout (even that in good shape) have to be removed from between tiles, or just roughed up? Is there a special "pool" grout, or will something designed for showers work? Thanks

You can sand blast the pool or some do an Acid wash on it. Then re-marcited the pool . Any time I have had this done the tile is filled in with the marcite. Its all the same mix . Just a little more fine sand in it. Most use the new marcite with the marble chips in it . That last a lot longer .

Red dye in concrete?

My bungalow basement floor was tiled by the previous owners (I'm guessing some time in the late 50' or 60's). At some time, they also had flooding problems. Today, there are no flooding problems and the tile has all been removed. However, their remains a red dust that I cannot clean. If exposed to water, it creates a river of blood-like water that stains everything it contacts (a permanent stain, as well as I can determine). It can't be swept clean, it can't be mopped. I've tried painting over the floor, but the red product bled through and still stains everything in contact. I even tried priming the floor with Kilz first, and the red bled through that too. I've tried washing the floors with wet vacs, but there seems to be an endless supply of red. There is still dried mastic on part of the floor and I'm sure the red dust has something to do with the old tile because the areas of the basment that were never tiled are not a problem. Please help! I'm at my wit's end as my basement is essentially unusable. Does anyone have any ideas about 1) what the red is (none of the tile was red) and 2) how it can be removed? Thanks.Read More

I need to mount 1x3's and plywood on a brick wall. This is NOT brick veneer. I discovered that it's very SOFT. A masonry bit will cut into mortar and brick -- as easily as some WOOD!! That was a surprise. I returned to the hardware store, to exchange lead anchors for PLASTIC! I could just picture when I pound in the lead anchors, I'd see many cracks and pieces of mortar breaking off. The 1x3's are vertical, then I'll screw 1/2 plywood to that. Big QUESTION: How much spacing is needed on the 1x3's and how many boards for a 20 foot width? If an 8' by 4' sheet weighs 40 lbs and 4 1x3's are used, then 6 anchors each gives a total of 24 anchors to hold the 8x4 sheet.
