replacing driveway crack with brick

I have a bad crack in my cement circular driveway. I want to cut the crack out and lay in a brick pattern. (single brick line the width of the driveway). I'm worried about the bricks sinking below the surface of the driveway after a period of time and traffic. Is there a way of preventing this?

I would cut the crack out to the proper width and full depth, but I would wreck around any rebar running perpendicular to cut. The I would pour back to the proper depth (if required) with high strength patching mortar. I would lay the brick with high strength mortar as well, cutting them as required around the rebar.
