slab pipes

With houses build on slabs what is the gereral guidline for how deep you can safely drill into it before your in danger of hitting the main water supply or drain pipe? My house was built on a slab in the northeast in the mid 80s. I know my gas line is not in the slab but I'm not sure about the other lines I mentioned. thanks

Generally speaking, those lines are buried in the sand subgrade beneath and prior to pouring the floor. We can never be sure of this however. One would think you could drill in 4 "deep.
