Widening Doorway

I have a doorway from basement to lower level garage that is only about 24" wide and want to increse to 32". The wall is 2x4 stud but sits on a ledge that is about 8" high and 6" thick. Need to remove some of the ledge to install new door. Thought to drill series of holes with hammerdrill then finish wth chisel. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for your help.

that ledge is a stem wall..your drill/chisel technique will work..it will take a while though..if you can rent a gas powered concrete saw(quicky saw), it will go much faster..they are loud and make alot of dust but make short work of concrete and steel..if you've never used one, get safety advice from your rental store..

make sure the new door is headered/framed properly.
