Basements
I'm getting ready to build a new home this summer and I would like the foundation to be a basement. Can someone give me an idea of cost per sq/ft for a basement? I live in the Asheville NC area if that makes a difference.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Basements
The cheapest space in your house, especially if you have frost or a sloping lot.
In Asheville, much will depend if you are on the flat, hanging on a hill or have the money to level a mountain like your neighbor with the really big house and long driveway.
If you have a plan have a contractor take a look at it. He may have some good ideas.

Yes, I understand alot will depend on the lay of the land, but can someone give me an idea or range of how much per sq ft to build a basement? Or, are basements priced differently per sq ft?

Get contractors' estimates.
Factors affecting cost:
Excavation - Lay of land, obstructions such as rock or tree stumps, size of hole, what will be done with the dirt?
Footing - Size and shape of basement
Basement walls: Size and shape of basement, block or poured concrete, or other? How high?
You need to have definite plans available for reference by the contractors.
