salvaged bricks

What is the best way to clean up salvaged bricks. Also will bricks from an old fireplace flue be suitable for use in a patio floor-(could they be damaged from exposure to heat for so long)

salvaged bricks

Salvaged brick usually have little value except for the ability to match other brick in the home. To clean, just used a masons hammer and a masonry chisel to chip off the hardened mortar. You should be able to get enough off the tops, bottoms and ends to relay since the left over mortar is in the mortar joint.

The exposure to the heat would have nothing to do with the durability of clay brick, since they are made at 2000 degrees. Some architectural clay brick are intended for use as a veneer, but may not weather too well if laid on moist ground in a cold climate. There are different degres of weather classifications for clay brick. Much will depend on the exposure and conditions.

If they are fire brick from the burning chamber, they were made to resist the high temperatures, but could have problems with freeze/thaw while moist.

salvaged bricks

Definitly worth 800 if you have enough.

Worth much more if you have enough for a small addition on the same structure. Questionable whether there would enough good salvaged brick on a fireplace.
