Outside walls of home

Ok I am a real novice here so hopefully I can explain what I mean. I will do my best. We live in a 2 story older home whose outside walls are made of like sculpted cinder blocks (this is where I am lost - not sure what to call them) Through the years the cement in between the blocks has deteriorated with the help of the birds and squirrels. As a result there are small holes all around the house between the blocks where the lovely animals access their homes. Apparently this has been repaired once before we moved in with just cement fill.

I hope I am making some sense and someone will know what I am talking about :-). My husband and I are hoping that we can start repairing it ourselves as we cannot afford a masonry company.

Any suggestions?

Is the exterior stucco? What part of the country do you live?

I'de say you could clean out the loose debris and patch it with cement mortar.

Can you post some pictures to a free site like photobucket.com?
