Question Tearing siding off concrete block home...

My home is 70 years old. My husband and I are currently in the process of hiring contractors to do some major work to it. (roof, windows, kitchen and bath remodel etc)
The previous owners put vinyl siding up. It has since cracked and faded. I considered residing, but realize this house was not meant to have siding.
It is a concrete block home and would have alot of character if I can remove the siding, patch and paint it. I know it's alot of intensive labor but I'm ready for it.

I need to know what are the best steps after removing the siding. Should I power wash it, patch and then possibly stucco? I would like to use some type of thick texture material over the concrete block and patches to help hide any imperfections the siding holes left. What are the best products to use to power wash and patch it?

Here is a pic of our home taken last summer. It just wasn't meant to have siding...

Yes, we're ripping all the shrubs out too. No point is redoing the exterior when you can't see it.

The side door is currently getting replaced and we had to tear off some of the siding. This is what it looks like underneath...

Thanks so much

Block House

I too am in a similiar situation. House built in 1932 having new windows etc put in and all. It is a block house. All vertical lines are even, but the horizontal lines are cupped. I was looking at a patch to fill in all the lines and paint over siliar to stucco. I have had two quotes one for stucco - 16K and one for 25K for Permacoate. Let me know if you find any interesting options.

Stucco panels come to mind as an option. A little more expensive than vinyl, but a durable option. http://www.oldhouseweb.com/stories/Detailed/10147.shtml

There are many coating options, including stucco and textured, some of which are spray on. http://www.paintpro.net/Abstracts/PP302_textured_coatings.cfm
