Burying brick

I want to regrade around a portion of my foundation to correct a drainage problem. Unfortunately, getting the grade I want would require burying a portion of an exterior brick chimney.

The bricks are on a concrete foundation and are about 6" above grade. I want to add a foot or two of fill to create a slope away from the foundation. Is there any reason I can't bury the bricks, or is there a sealer or treatment for the brick that I should use before burying them?

If the ground freezes in your area and you bury the bricks, clay bricks will start spalling during cold weather and keep spalling until there is nothing left of them. I'm not sure what happens to concrete brick, nor do I know of any sealers appropriate for that purpose.
