Bricks are sinking

The previous owner of my house used those pinkish bricks to make sidewalks at the sides of the house. On one side, some of the bricks are sinking. I am especially concerned about the ones right next to the gas pipe.

Can I just lift the bricks, put something underneath (sand?), and put the bricks back in?

Thanks in advance.

An inch or so of sand on top of a compacted surface is the normal base for pavers. Any idea what you have for a base?
