Stucco over paint?

Our house is in a high moisture, cold area of Costa Rica. The exterior is a water based white paint that I would like to change to stucco. I have questions on preperation. Like, do I need to remove the old paint first? or rough it up? What to do vs what not to do? Good Stucco--Bad stucco--I am obivously not an expert, and I hope and pray this job isnīt over my head! Thank you in advance, and God bless all you guys for offering your time and expertise to help others all over the world!

Putting stucco on the entire house sounds like something to at least talk about with a couple contractors to get a feel for whether it's a DIY project in the first place.

Stucco can be applied over most unpainted masonary. Sometimes it's better to install a wire lath and stucco to it. I agree with mitch - getting a few bids will give you a better idea what the job entails.
