Need Help

I have a lot of grass and soil that is at the edge of my house. I want to dig it up and replace it with cement. The reason is everytime is rains a lot the water goes to my basement. Any suggestions on how to go about this project? I rather do it myself oppose to hiring a contractor.

Hi and welcome,

If you're getting water in your basement, first you should check a couple of other things...

Are your gutters clean and downspouts clean? If they are clogged, water may be spilling over the sides of the gutters instead of going out the downspouts.

Are the downspouts directed away from the house? You may need to add a downspout extension to get the water to travel far enough away.

Is the ground graded correctly? It should slope away from the house so the water drains away.

Let me know about those items first, please.
