Need Advice For A Drilling and Anchoring Project

I have 2 driveways, each with 7 high 2 square gate posts constructed of concrete block with heavy stone facing. There are no gates across the driveways between the posts.

I want to attach a chain across each drive between the gate posts. Im thinking of drilling a single hole in each post through the mortar between stones, using a rotary hammer drill. Id then like to insert a machine screw anchor in each hole to receive a stainless steel eyebolt.

Ive never done this particular task before so Im wondering if anyone who has can give me some pointers. These gate posts are beautiful and I dont want to make a mess of them. Thanks.

Vic

use a small bit first to avoid wandering of the bit. make sure you mark the location carefully because you only get one chance. then move up to the size of bit you need. clean the hole out with compressed air and use a anchor that uses epoxy to hold that will probably give you the best hold for the aplication. it is not a hard project just don't get in hurry.
measure twice drill once.
