Small Brick Privacy Wall

Hi,
I am planning to build a stand alone, small brick wall, 5' long by 5' high to hide my trash area. I saw a wall design I'd like to duplicate. It is a 16" x 8" x 4" cinder block wall with brick face. This will save me on cost of brick and appears to be stronger.

After I lay the proper footing, I assume I put up the block wall first. Do I use brick ties to reinforce brick to block? If so, are they placed in the block morter joints or to the surface? Do I set morter between the brick and block? I also am guessing I do not leave a 1" gap between brick and block as is done when putting a veneer on building.

Thanks for your forum site. It has been helpful in the past.

So long as the brick and block course out, you can simply lay the ties in the block as you lay them. Even easier, get some ladder wire for 8" block and lay up the brick and block together, putting the wire in every other course of block. No gap, but make sure you have a water tight cap.

Thanks for the quick response, T. You've given me a booste of confidence as though I know what I'm doing. The ladder wires are a great idea and I'm going to give them consideration.

Thanks again.
