Foundation for garage

Looking to build a detached garage, but where the garage will go, there is currently an asphalt lot. Is it okay to build on top of the asphalt instead of a concrete foundation? If not, who would I call to have the asphalt removed so a foundation can be poured and how much would something like that cost?

you really need to remove the asphalt at least where the outer walls are going to be and pour a concrete foundation there. cost is variable depending on the part of the country you live in. look for a concrete contractor, you might ask around your area, who is going to build the garage? if you are hireing that done they probably will do it all for a small fee. LOL

Thanks for the info, my fiance will actually be building it next year, we got a price from a lumber yard for a "garage kit" that fits our specs. I was hoping we wouldnt have to remove the asphalt although I can see why. I wonder if theres a way for us (him) to do it and save money
