Weep Holes & Carpenter Ants

I've got a situation where we suspect carpenter ants are coming in through the weep holes in the brick. I did read where you can buy stainless steel wool or copper wool to stuff in the holes, but I dont think that stuff is readily available. I was thinking of stuffing the holes with some type of scotch-brite pad material. Anyone have any thoughts on the viability of my solution? I know mice would get through it, but would carpenter ants chew through it? If this sounds like a bad idea, where would I find the stainless steel wool?

I personally prefer the ant baits. Blocking their path may work for awhile, but they have time and persistence on their side. Now, there are specific baits for carpenter ants, but when you find the right one, they simply disappear.
