Beginner Brick question

I'm trying to figure out how I can stick some bricks onto the front of my new wood fire oven without worrying about them falling off? I just want a couple rows of bricks to act as a ledge on the front of my oven stand. I attached a couple links to pictures in hopes that someone will understand what I'm trying to do and have some suggestions.

Right now I'm thinking of bolting some angle iron onto the cement slab that's just under the oven and resting my row of brick on that.. unless someone has a better idea..

Drilling in concrete for post anchors

We were going to redo our deck, but when we tore it out we found a perfect slab under it. So we decided to keep the cement. Not many years ago we built a fairly large arbor over the deck(about 14x20)and it was anchored to the deck framing. Now I'm in the process of replacing the support posts(4x4's) and intend to use post anchors. For the anchors it requires a 3/4" hole for the lead anchors. I tried drilling the first hole with a good 3/4" bit, but only got down less than an inch, need to go 2" deep.The cement is pretty old and was a 5 bag mix so it's really hard. I was using the drills I have,first a variable 3/8" and then I tried my old 1/2" drill, but no luck. Would a hammer drill hopefully work? Do I need a special bit(bought a professional 3/4" bit from our local ACE Hardware)? Would drilling smaller sizes at first help? Any advice sure would be appreciated. RichRead More

Concrete Stairs

I have concrete stairs that are falling apart---cracking, limestones loose, concrete chipping, etc... There are 6 stairs, a landing and then two more, one of which is way high. The 6 on the bottom do not have limestone caps, but the top 2 do. The foundation for the stairs is concrete block. I had a contractor tell me he could put a wire mesh on the front of the stairs add some new cement and then stucco. In addition he would add limestone caps to the stairs that dont have them and re-secure the ones on the stairs that do... My question is if the concrete is crumbling would this "re-facing" job hold up?? I dont know the condition of the concrete blocks below, they are prob. fine but the exterior concrete is in bad shape...Read More
