removing broen lag shield anchor from brick

The railing on my front porch is secured to the brick w/ a lag shield anchor. The top anchor is loose, upon closer inspection i found the bolt has broken off in the anchor, leaving the anchor wedged in the brick. what is the best way to remove with causing damage to the surrounding brick. thanks JC

My guess is that you will need to re-drill and re-anchor in a slightly different location. If you can't remove the threaded portion..the anchor won't come out without extensive damage to the brick.

If you can see the broken portion..you should be able to drill into the bolt and use a "EZ Out" (broken screw extractor) to remove it, then use a new screw.

I'd suggest using something like PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench before trying to unscrew the shaft...sometimes they bond pretty tight to the anchor.
