Question about what's sticking up from my sidewalk....
Hi,
The city here replaced our sidewalks maybe 5 or so years ago so they're not that old. I noticed last week that my neighbor had what I thought was about 1" of rebar that was suddenly sticking up out of the concrete.
I see the same thing today in my sidewalk.
I thought it was rebar and went to cut it and it looks copper. It's maybe half an inch thick.
What on earth is that and can I cut it without messing anything up?
I'd call the contractor but since the city hired it, I don't even know who it would be. (They generally did a pretty poor job of replacing the sidewalks, if that matters.)

Is this sidewalk out along the street? Or something they had to replace on your property for some reason.
Only thing I can think of is some sort of ground rod..but I'd think that would be IN the slab.
and how did it suddenly stick up? Is it being forced though somehow..is the slab sinking?

Could it possibly be related to the water company drilling a hole and sticking something in there? I noticed the dirt around the round sewer hole in our yard is disturbed.
It's bizarre. And it's a big trip hazard and I don't want to get sued!

eta: I called the water company and they sometimes do dye testing underneath sidewalks to look for leaks, she said so that might explain it.

No clue...but it does seem odd. Maybe you can call the Water people back and ask to talk to who does the testing? Prob a contract service though...
Sorry...let us know what you find out or if it just diappears again.

call your city council person and let them handle it
I would also inform the city public works in writing that it presents a hazard and needs to be corrected
cc the city council person on that letter
