Question

Hello everyone - I have a huge oak tree in my back yard that is 5' in diameter, and I wish to build a ground level, 15' by 25' concrete patio slab under it.

My concern is the four inches of dirt & roots I will have to dig out - will it kill the tree?

There is already a square slab next to the tree, on the opposite side from where I am going to pour the new patio slab.

Do you know just how much dirt area is required to have around a tree to keep it alive, and in relatively good health?

Thank you so much - Cajun Joe in New Orleans
