Scratch on Granite Countertop

I have some surface scrathes on my granite countertop in one small area. How do I remove them?

You're looking at the countertop, I'm not, but granite, in my opinion, would be a rather poor choice of a countertop material. Are you sure it's not Corian? If that's what it is, a half sheet orbital sander with 180 grit paper is how the scratches were removed by the folks who built the top.
