Drain in fire pit?

What is the best way to put a drain in a fire pit (built with stone / brick / mortar)?

Whats your soil like? You could put a drywell underneath it if your water table is low and the soil drains well.

What about using an insert that can be dumped out?
Cause I'm thinking about clogs if you try to channel the water anywhere using a drain. I've never heard of this kind of setup?

or make a cover?

You need a design for the pit first, as well as the base and sub-base. With the information you have given so far, simple slots through the walls are your best bet.
