What mortar to repair a stone wall?

One of the stones fell out of my decorative stone retaining wall. Should I use quickcrete to stick it back into place?

Here's a picture - you can see that there was some sort of mortar in back, but apparently it wasn't a "forever mix".

Use a mortar mix

You need something with lime and no large aggregate. Here's a link describing different mortar mixes:

What is Mortar Mix?

Also, I saw some stone masons on one of the TV shows crush the old mortar with a hammer and mix it into the new mortar to help match the color. I can't tell from the photo if your mortar is a special color or even shows that much, but if it does, this might help.

Good luck!
