Repair Brick Mortar Around Swimming Pool

My swimming pool has shifted and I need to fill in brick mortar around the pool and between some of the bricks themselves. The areas to be filled in are pretty deep and will require some sort of backing. I will probably use Quickcreet and will need to remove some of the latex filler left over from the last repair attempt.

What is the best way to tackle this?

Thanks for any advise.

What do you mean by backing?

Since the space to be filled is pretty deep I would have to use "backing" as a sort of shelf on which to lay the mortar; otherwise the mortar would probably drop out of sight.

The backing I have seen is a kind of spongy rope that comes in different sizes and can be stuffed into the cracks.

If the depth isn't more than 6 inches, I would just use the mix to fill it. I don't see how it could be deeper than that, unless there was an earthquake.

In some cases the space is a few feet deep with the width at the top as much as an inch.

I'd fill it with sand if it's between bricks.

we'd mix mix vermiculite & sand ( 1:1 ) & fill voids so when intruding water freezes, the fill expansion will have some ' give ' - repoint as nec/rqd w/proper mortar.

quikcrete is a good product imo,,, the problems arise when those who aren't skilled pick the wrong mtl & misuse it ( usually by adding too much wtr )

Thanks Stadry1 and Pulpo, that makes sense. Which Quikcrete would you recommend?
