What to do with old outdoor BBQ island?
Took out the BBQ and stove, both of which were on their last legs. Thought about replacing the slate top and rebricking the whole the thing, but there is a natural gas hookup under there. Fire place maybe? Any suggestions?

You don't know what you got till it's gone.
That thing is neat! I would not rebrick it, I would remove the tiles and stainless edge, and put a slab of granite on it for the counter top, clean up the brick, I could use that for a million things, plants, bar, chips, kids, serving, food, lunch, TV, a bunch of stuff.

I agree. We've gotten a ton of use out of it, but I've had to put a big piece of particle board on top. I agree, probably should clean up the brick put a different top on it. Wouldn't granite be a little pricey?

It’s a Keeper!
I too like the looks of it . Like agent91 there are many possible uses . . . if you use your outdoor patio, you could make a bar from it Beer 4U2, and a small, outdoor use refrig would save going inside to get beverages.
In terms of a top other than granite, a colored concrete would make for a durable surface http://www.concretenetwork.com/count...tertops_v2.pdf. Stopping by a big box store would allow you to evaluate other kitchen top options suitable for an outdoor environment . While also pricey, some surfaces, trim pieces, or a cutting board could be made from marine board Colored Tinted HDPE Plastic Sheets.
