Is plastic under concrete essential?

I just laid a 800mm square step (about 100 mm thick). I did not think to put plastic under the concrete. Am I headed for trouble?

Welcome to the forums!

Normally the plastic serves as a vapor barrier to keep moisture out of a living area. If this is outside, it shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, it is an outside step to a spa. So all should be well. Thanks for the quick reply.

Another reason to put plastic under concrete is to prevent the moisture in the cement from wicking down into the dry soil before the cement has had time to set up and cure. It's no biggie if it wasn't done.

Building our 1st Bungalow

Hi, This seems to be about the best forum i can find for my question, i hope someone can help,
We're about to embark on building ourselves a small bungalow in Bali, indonesia,
We've just been recommended to put a plastic layer under our foundations to protect them from moisture, this sound very sensible as it does rain alot here!
We're ok with that but there also seems to be some sort of concrete trough needed around the house to protect aswell, can anybody suggest where i could find diagrams of this please?
many thanks,
Charlies dad,
