Filling in a window

We are remodeling our kitchen. The previous owners retro-fitted a smaller window in the original larger opening. My husband and I would like to remove the siding and install new brick and a new concrete sill (we are keeping the smaller sized window because it is the window over our sink). We are removing the plaster from the inside so we will have complete access to the window opening from the inside out. I have attached pictures of the back of the house showing the window, the retro-fit, the interior block foundation wall, and a close up of the brick. Even though we are experienced DIY'ers we have never laid brick, but since the contractors in our area want to charge $1000 for fixing it, we figured we'd give it a try! Please help!
