Replacing 2X4 Expansion Joints
I need to replace 200' of rotted cedar 2X4's in driveway slabs throughout a townhouse complex that is app. 30 years of age.
The lengths range from 11' to 20' .
The widths range from 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" and cause a tripping hazard.
What can I use in place of the wood? In the past I have used treated 2X4's but it is somewhat troublesome trying to keep them in place after removing the old, rusty nails that were used to secure the original wood plus some of the widths have increased over the years.
I have noticed that new driveways use felt. Would this be a good option and where can I purchase felt? Is it available in multiple thicknesses?
Any other options would be greatly appreciated as I need to complete this project before cold weather sets in.

Welcome to the forums
Why is there wood in a driveway in the first place?
Can you post some pictures of this?

I assume it was used as an expansion joint.
I do not know why a full 1 1/2" joint was needed whereas the felt joints I see today are perhaps half that width.
I do not have a photo as of yet.

it was so the ' why ' doesn't matter now,,, remove it carefully so you don't spall the joint aris,,, clean the sidewalls - insert 2" closed cell backer rod - seal w/100% silicone or polysulfide,,, don't use the self-leveling stuff for better results.
btw, NOTHING you need will be avail at ANY color apron store.
