Brick Foundation Joint Caulking Blunder

So I made a mistake this weekend and used Butyl caulk to essentially repoint a joint that is roughly 10-15 ft in length and maybe a 1/4" deep. I know now that this caulk won't breathe like mortar will and may retain moisture.

The joint was slightly below the water line which is why I thought this type of caulk would work OK. It's at a location where I suspected water seepage (usually when my gutters get clogged birds and otherwise).

Question: Can i safely leave this a season or two? Or should I just remove it now?

Thanks!
