Raised stone/morter foundation

Have an old house, with a crawl space, raised stone morter foundation. Everything looks good with the foundation very solid. To close off the raised foundation there was a concrete patch, with an extra concrete pad poured all the way around the house. problem is the patch is cracking and coming off, pad is starting to buckle a bit. My issue I don't know what to put in the cracking concrete to seal it back off. More of a cosmetic issue, but it needs to be addressed or moisture will start getting in. Any ideas would be great!

Pics would help but off the top of my head there is exterior caulking that could fill the cracks as well as mortar.

brick chimney repair options

My chimney is about 40 years old and there is water leaking into my house. A chimney repair guy said that the brick is "old brick" and that the brick is checking and mortar is degrading and that a completely new chimney must be installed. At $8,000.00, I am wondering if one option would be to have a carpenter build a decorative wood casing around the chimney to prevent further degradation, and have the top of the chimney flashed over the wood so that the existing old brick and mortar are no longer exposed to rain and snow. Parging over tar?

I have a walkout basement and have parging on my above grade exterior concrete block walls. In a small area I have dug out a several feet. The problem is that the area of the wall that used to be below grade is covered with waterproofing tar. I would like to continue the parging down over the tar to cover it up. Is it possible to put parging over the tar? Will it stick given that the moisture from the mortar mix won't be able to be absorbed into the concrete block since it is now covered by tar? Should I remove the tar? If so, how? Any other suggestions? Thanks!Read More
