French Drain?

Built in 1935, this sidewalk inclines down to the basement door, below which water flows freely... any way to make a french drain? Note the
stone walls on the sides preventing digging off to the sides... any ideas?

Tear out the wrong-way-pitched slab, dig a big pit, fill with No. 3 rock, then pour a new properly-pitched slab with a full-width grate in it to allow the water to go some place. If you live in a wet zone, or your soil is impermeable (doesn't promote free drainage), consider installing a sump pump at the bottom of a lined pit, and skip the rock.

You could also install an overhang, attached to the house, to divert rain/snow away from the opening.
