With a concrete base for the walkway bricks may either be mortared in place or placed on a supplemental sand bed.

You can save some money this way....

When installing over existing concrete you can use thinner bricks (about half the thickness). Mortar them in place.

Dirt Floor

I have a dirt floor in what could be a very nice basement room. I know a little about masonry, but not enough to be confident. How deep should I dig the floor down, how much gravel, should I put expansion joint between the floor and existing walls, is there an easier way to make this room usable? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Repair of brick /mortar cracks

I have cracks in an exterior brick wall, following mortar joints, but also through a few brick. I saw a segment on the Weather Channel describing repair of cracks using a "mortar bag" to force mixed mortar into the crack. The "mortar bag" appeared to be a heavy, pliable plastic funnel with a metal nozzle. Does anyone know where I might find a "mortar bag"? Help will be much appreciated.
