Would like to Build a BBQ Island

Hello everyone, I would like to build a bbq island out of bricks and concrete counter tops, the area where I want to put it is just dirt right now, If I put in a new section of concrete (8x8) do I need to put rebar, where the Island will be or is there another way to secure the bricks to the cement pad?

Edit* I mean out of cinder blocks, not regular bricks.....

You'll need a concrete pad, and yes, it will need either rebar in it or re-fence to help keep it from cracking. After it has cured, then you can start laying your block to form the barbeque island. If you have the foresight to do it, I like to run rebar bent and tied to the lateral ones in the pad up into where the block will be, at least in the back for stability.

And when the Mrs. wants to rearrange the patio furniture in a few years, make sure you tell her it's her responsibility to move the BBQ.
