Legality of tire damage spikes

My property has a long driveway with a turnabout on it. I'm between two subdivisions and as of late, I'm getting lots and lots of cars using my driveway to turn around or park. This is extremely frustrating to me, to the point of putting up no trespassing signs, private drive signs, etc. These are all ignored. At this point, I'm ready to lay tire spikes down to deter people from using my driveway.

If this was happening once a month I wouldn't really care, but it's happening as often as 3x a day. I've already had someone in a delivery truck take out one of my azaleas and knock several branches off a tree. The local police has been zero help.

Although they may be legal on your own property...how would you get in and out? Could you describe what you mean by spikes? The type that commercial parking lots have or just boards with nails in them? The second one would probably be illegal just as a booby trap in your home is.

How about a simple gate or cable (with adequate warning signage of course)?

I wouldn't use the spikes. Too much liability. I, like Vic, would employ a gate or cable of sorts. Being a little more ornery than you, would probably use a coil of razor wire, but, hey If you use a gate or cable, bury the posts and concrete around them substantially. We have a set at our church that get replaced probably every month. Buried 1' and concreted about 6" around.

I was thinking the spikes you see in parking lots, not just boards with spikes. Chandler, by the design of the driveway, a gate wouldn't really be practical, because if we stick it at the end of the driveway, someone would just turn into it. What d you mean by cabling? You mean running a cable across the driveway?

Yep..just a cable attached to 2 posts on each side of the drive.

I still don't know how you'd use even the commercial spikes. They are spring loaded for one way traffic. If you keep them out, you can't get in either. If you keep them in...how would you get out?

Sure I guess you could arrange them so only you know the route, like a minefield, but even then..what about legitimate visitors or emergency vehicles?

They'd also be pretty darn pricy I imagine.

Not sure. I was thinking about having something that I could lock once our vehicles were out.

I'd suggest getting some ideas from a commercial fence company, like America fence, or someone who specializes in estate gates and automatic gate operators.

The no trespassing signs, in conjunction with some security camera footage should be enough for the police (or a lawyer) to do something. But I'm sure the legal fees you would have to foot might make you think about putting that same money into a gate instead.

I agree with using 2 posts with some chain in between. Concrete the posts in the ground very well and then use some heavy duty chain between them. I doubt anyone will go through the trouble of unhooking the chain to get through. Put some reflective tape on the posts and maybe a sign so that they can't say they didn't have any warning about the chain if they hit it.

And some red flags dangling from the chain.
