Concrete counter advice

I'm building an outdoor kitchen out of dimensional block and want to do a cast-in-place concrete counter. I'm thinking of using Z counterforms for the counters edges. Should I use PVC or cement board for the base of the counter? Any other suggestions would also be helpful as I've never done this before. Thanks

Unless you have some alternate means of anchorage, I suspect PVC might be too slippery for your slab to remain in one place. Meaning it will want to slide and move around. Properly-anchored cement board would be far better.
