Stucco Brown Coat Cracks !

Hello Experts,

I am currently in the process of stucco- ing my house. After my contractor applied the brown coat (its been over a week now) I see a lot of hair line cracks and lines on one of the walls (see attached pic). From what I understand brown cracks a bit, but how do i determine how much is acceptable ? Should I get this section redone
or would finish coat resolve this ?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums!

I've seen a lot worse cracks in the base coat, some I could slide my putty knife in so I doubt you have anything to be concerned with ..... but I'm a painter not a mason. Some of the others will likely chime in later.

The photo is a bit too blurry for me to accurately assess what's going on. But if the cracking is just shrinkage-related, as opposed to active or moving, I'd be tempted to just color-coat over the top and hope for its bridging ability to keep them covered. Your climate will be working in your favor, with little temperature variations.

Sorry, but the "more pics" are of no help. Still too blurry to enable me to see the size, type and extent of cracking.

Meaning my initial response still stands.
