We are remodeling a room in our newly purchased (built 1958), single story, concrete slab, stucco and cinder block house. In teh process we need to rough out the openings for the two new windows we purchased as well as close up the opening where a third window used to be. The walls are cinder block with stucco (outside) and we have to come up from the floor about 16 inches and in about 3 feet on each side. The windows were huge - and went all the way to the floor. We bought new vinyl windows and to save on the installation/remodeling costs, we are roughing out the openings ourselves. The only problem is that we have no experience/know-how/ or tools.
Any suggestions? We do have one book on how to build a cinder block wall for a garden and another on stucco technique. We have the measurements from the contractor we hired; Now we need materials and advice.
Questions: How do you insulate the blocks? How do you pour the concrete into the last row of blocks on the top row for the third window we are sealing up? Who should we contact for buying the block? do poeple deliver that stuff? Is it cheaper to buy in bulk or to buy at a home store? Do you have any recomendations for brands, types of concrete, tools, etc?
Thanks in advance! This is my first post.Read More
