Keeping water out, foundation question

Hey guys,

These last couple of years we've had a lot of hard rain and it seems that around my front porch the water has washed away a lot of the dirt/ground that's around my foundation. The porch does have gutters on the side of it as it comes out in the yard, but not in the front as the roof is like this: /\ (front)
It might not be clear, but imagine looking at a house from the side the way the roof is, that's the way my porch looks like up front. I don't have a basement, just a crawlspace.
Anyway, is there anything I can put around the bricks to protect it from water seeping in by the ground? Lots of dirt up against the bricks and build a little hill so it'll run off? Concrete? Appreciate any advice.

Gutters with downspout extensions to run the water away from the foundation are what you need. The hill would help but it won't do all the work, I don't believe.

Thanks for the reply mitch. I'll look into that, but I believe rain will still hit the front part of the porch (Where the roof is angled like this /\). I already have gutters on the side.
What kind of stuff can I put down by the bricks build a hill or protect them? Regular top soil dirt? Something else?
Thanks.
