underground tank

I might redo my water system and it would involve burying a 600-800 gallon tank in the back yard close to the house.Just for water storage and it would have a pump inside it.
I wondered if a plastic tank would be safe in the ground 6 ft down from animals or is concrete
or metal the only appropriate choice. what do you think??
a solar powered well pump would slow fill the tank...

What you will be using the water for is a deciding factor. Is the water for potable use ?

many tanks you see standing above ground are concrete coated on the inside,,, i'd use plastic underground - cheap & easy to move w/o heavy equip,,, if the system's sealed, how would any animals get into it ? would never choose metal

I would use plastic. Make sure the tank is designed for direct burial!

Make sure you include an access hatch for cleaning and access to the pump and float switches.
