Help me compare two asphalt driveway bids
I am proceeding along with the bid process for resurfacing my driveway and parking area. I've had three bids, one was about double the price of the the other two, so that's out. This leaves me with two bids, one is 10k and the other 12k.
The 10k is a proposal is to rock over driveway on settled spots (part of the driveway was built on fill and there is some significant settling), level, compact, weed kill, clean and apply tack coat and pave w/ 2" compacted asphalt.
The 12k is similar to the above, with two main differences:
1) he wants to grind existing asphalt down in the parking area, use that as base and put down 2" of compact asphalt. He explained that this was to make sure we had a good base and counteract what appears to be settling in the middle part of the parking area, as well as to keep existing cracks from traveling up through the new asphalt.
2) He wants to put down petromat over the rest of the driveway, again to keep pre-existing cracks from traveling up through the new asphalt.
He also talked about using new asphalt or the ground asphalt to pre-level the settled spots rather than use gravel.
I could use some advice from guys who know asphalt. Are the differences in method and material worth the cost difference?
Thanks,

The $12 K proposal is by far better if for no other reason than the fact that he is using the mat material.
