Epoxy between brick and hardiplank siding?

At the base of our house, there is about a 1 inch gap between a brick and the hardy plank siding. I would like to close this up so critters cant get in that space. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Hard to see it without a picture but I would assume that a simple bag of mortar mix... vinyl patch... or hydraulic cement would fill the space. Whatever you use, you will want to rinse and brush the bricks after you're done to make sure that the stuff you smear on the side of the bricks doesn't leave any cement residue that would dry and become a permanent film.

I'm assuming the bricks (and the air space behind the bricks) goes all the way to the ground, while the hardiplank and/or trim doesn't start until you get about 6" above grade... so you have about 6" of space along the side of the brick, below the siding that needs to be filled in. Correct?
