I don't like the color of the brick on our house.
At first I was going to paint but I really dislike
the look of painted brick so I thought why can't it
be stained??? I called some stores and they all
said I should paint. I think there has to be a way
to stain. We would prefer to do this project ourselves
if possible. Any suggestions or comments?

Currently there are few companies that provide this service but they do not sell their product to customers. In the DIY range the main choices are paint, use a masonry stain, or make a tinted masonry sealer. Masonry stain is readily available (sometimes sold as concrete stain). Penetrating breathable masonry sealers that chemically combine with the brick exist. They would be tinted with "universal" tinting colors for plastics (plastics supply store). The application method is artistic and it's brick by brick (a step by step guide does not exist).

Paint is fast. Staining each brick using either ready made or a homemade product will be tedious.
