rock face help..

Hey.. I am trying to rock face some 2 1/4 limestone caps. My first attempt failed as I was left with a smooth section in the middle. I tried using a brick chisel which seems like it might be too sharp and not creating enough downward force to get a bigger sliver..

Is there a way to fix this smooth edge to make it at least look somewhat rock faced? I can hide this edge against a wall where it really wont be seen much but I would still like it to not be too obviously wrong..

Also besides maybe using a hand set instead of the brick chisel is there something else to this that I need to understand in order to avoid having this happen on the other side? I have to rock face 3 more edges after I cut some caps to the right size..

I'm not a mason but, after you get it cut to size you take a hammer and chisel and knock off the corners. You will have to play but setting the chisel about 1/4" back from the edge would be a good place to start.
