Paver Border around Asphalt Driveway

I would like to install a decorative 9" x 9" cement paver border around my asphalt driveway. The Asphalt is new, laid on top of an 8" lime rock base. I don't want to widen the drive way so I plan on first saw cutting back the asphalt edges to make room for the pavers. I would prefer to install the pavers on top of some type of mortar bed vs sand and using plastic edging. I'm in South Florida so no frost issues. What is the preferred way to do this?

Welcome to the forums.

Any chance of talking you out of this? Whole lot of work and damage to a new driveway. IMO, this is something which should have been taken into account before you put in the new driveway.

No chance , I'm on a mission to do it, and since i'm the homeowner doing the work i'm intent on mitigating any collateral damage the driveway.
