Making realistic Stone Veneer
Hi guys!
i bought some rubber molds to start a home production of stone veneers but I' thing the colors aren't too realistic. I'm attaching a pic of one batch.
Have someone of you tried this and how did you archive a realistic color?
The little info available online is confusing. Some say to just pour the iron oxide in the mold. Others say to make a slurry and apply it with a brush. some even say to mix the color with the batch of cement.
Your help you be greatly appreciated.

That wall color looks quite realistic to me. A fair amount of random variation is good. Making it more uniform (or trying to) would tend to make it look artificial, in my mind.

I will post a pic later showing the color problem that is concerning me.
It looks like the white is detaching or depositing away from the main color, giving a "dusty" look to the stone.

I like your stone and i think it looks very nice. I have also purchased some rubber molds for personal use and I'm having trouble with it. I am a contractor and i use veneer stone a lot. So i decided to start making my own. I have used the manufactures directions but I'm not getting the product i want. Im using high early strength quickrete bags. I let them dry for more than 2 days covered and not in direct sun but in 70 plus temp. Stone still breaks when removing. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Quikrete 5000 (high strength) has been an excellent performer, in my limited experience with it, going back close to 20 years. I suspect you might be mixing and placing it too wet, which can lead to breakage and strength issues. Maintaining proper water-cement ratio is critical.
